Abigail Update

Abigail Sucks!
Well, what I mean is she took her first bottle today!
This is a big milestone on the road to bringing baby home. Now a whopping 3 lbs. 10.5 oz., Abby is gaining about an ounce a day.
The nurses fed her a bottle this morning, and are planning to bottle-feed her once a day. If she continues to gain weight, they will increase the ratio of bottle feeding to gavage feeding -- thru the tube in her nose.
While Jon and Amy were visiting, they prepared a second bottle with 10 cc's of breast milk as kind of a "demo." They thought she might be tired from her first bottle, but Jon said that she drained the bottle in no time, and they actually had to give her a pacifier after the bottle, because she kept on sucking. Also, Jon said that she ripped a big belch after eating, "just like mommy." Her compliments to the chef!
Aunt Colleen, Uncle Eric, and Nana and Pop Ryan took a trek to Abby-land yesterday, and saw a video of the baby in the hospital with her Mom and Dad on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Fortunately, they did not record Dad reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas..." we are hopelessly sentimental and would have been awash in tears!
We are happy to report that Abby is getting cuter and cuter. We hope that the talented technicians at Colgate will be able to digitize some of that video, and that we can share it with you! Thanks again for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. Here's to a Happy 1998!
