Abigail Update

Abigail is one week old today!

Mommy has been home from the hospital since Thursday; she went to visit Abigail today.

Abby has lost some weight (she was 1 lb. 14 oz. yesterday) -- but the doctors and nurses assure us that's par for the course for a preemie.

Some very good news over the weekend -- Abigail showed no evidence of intercranial bleeding, which is very common in premature babies. The doctors said that most babies who don't show bleeding at 4 days, don't have any at 14 days either. Hooray!

Abigail has also received "gut stimulation" (sounds gross, but that's what they call it). She is beginning to take Amy's breast milk through a nasal tube -- one cc at a time... Amy's background in dairy farming is really coming in handy now, as she has to keep to a 3-hour, round-the-clock milking schedule!

According to Nana Ryan, Abby has been very active. Amy told her that she kicks her legs around to get the nurses attention, so they will flip her over onto her tummy.

All in all, the folks in the NICU are very pleased with Abby's progress.

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and we'll give you more news as we get it!
