CRISNY offers inexpensive Internet services to area schools

The Capital Region Information Service of New York (CRISNY), a not-for-profit organization, is the area's community network.

Part of CRISNY's mission is to promote the use of network communication to enhance the quality of education in the schools and introduce teachers, students and parents to the exciting world of the Internet using the World Wide Web. To fulfill this mission, CRISNY is offering the following special pricing schemes for schools.

School accounts are to be used to post and maintain school information which would be of interest to the community, faculty, staff and students. This information could include, but not be limited to: schedules of special events or meetings, sporting events, clubs and activities, teacher's corner, student-of-the-month, etc. One coordinator's account will provide unlimited hours per month online, one e-mail address, and space on our Internet server up to a maximum of 10 MB.

School Building: $100/year

• E-mail account
• Unlimited hours per month on-line time
• Web access
• Web pages (10Mb), $10/month for each additional MB
• Help Desk support

School responsibilities:

• Provide computers, modems, space, and phone lines
• Identify person to manage account and maintain password security Account manager will be responsible for installing and maintaining client software, determining who may use the account, and managing the Web space.
• Encourage parents and the school community to subscribe to and use CRISNY. CRISNY is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing low-cost service to schools, governments, not-for-profit organizations and the entire community. Subscription fees from businesses and individuals are our primary source of income.
• Provide guidance to students and parents on appropriate uses of online communication
• For information posted on Web pages:
  • Provide information in HTML format
  • Abide by CRISNY Information Provider Guidelines
  • Keep information current
  • Provide one or more contacts (e-mail and phone) for comments and queries

Service Options for Additional Cost

• Accounts for teachers, staff and students for school or at-home use are available at regular rates. (See Individual Account Fee Schedule)
• Additional Storage space on CRISNY servers, $10 per MB per month.
