We could use your expertise!
Volunteers are an integral part of the operation of the Shaker Heritage Society. Presently, we have more than 150 volunteers, young and old, who volunteer a wide variety of talents and expertise. Here are some of the invaluable services our seemingly inexhaustible crew of volunteers provide:
TOUR GUIDES
Tour guides provide individual visitors, groups, and school children with an insight into the history of the Shakers and this site. We especially need guides during our Learning Fair for area fourth graders, which runs weekdays in the month of May through early June, and on Saturdays during the summer and fall for tours for the casual visitor. Training is provided.
DEMONSTRATORS/CRAFTSPEOPLE
The Shaker crafts of basket making, weaving, spinning, woodworking, broom making, soap making, and tinsmithing are demonstrated at our spring Learning Fair, craft fairs, Family Day, and other special events. If you are skilled in any of these areas or would like to learn the craft, please call the Society.
SPECIAL EVENT VOLUNTEERS
Each of our special events requires volunteers to staff the ticket table, food tent, membership table, etc. Come and help these events be a great success.
GIFT SHOP VOLUNTEERS
Help in the shop on a regular weekly basis or during Learning Fair, craft shows, or Christmas Shop. We also can use help with shop merchandise, such as checking, arranging and marking stock items.
OTHER
Use your secretarial skills, business or computer skills to help with office work, fund raisers, etc. If you have a skill you would like to put to work in support of the Society's efforts, we have a place for you.
