Schenectady County, New York, is located approximately 125 miles north of New York City, 200 miles south of Montreal, Canada, 130 miles east of Buffalo, and 180 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts.

Set on either side of the Mohawk River barge canal, the County contains the intersection of Interstate Routes 90 (connecting Buffalo and Boston) and 88 (connecting Schenectady and Binghamton).
